My Story

I'm a psychologist who has spent over 15 years studying the intersection of psychology and video games. My work examines why games are designed the way they are, why we play them, and what psychological principles drive player behavior.

To help with my goal of popularizing the use of psychology to understand games, I created The Psychology of Games website and podcast, which has reached countless readers and listeners worldwide. I have consulted with major game companies, spoken at industry conferences, and been featured in major media outlets like Good Morning America, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine, Wired Magazine, The Atlantic, The Guardian, Playboy, BBC Radio 1, Scientific American, Nature Magazine, The Times of London, and more.

When I'm not researching or writing, you'll find me playing games (of course), teaching psychology at the graduate school level, or speaking at conferences about the fascinating world where psychology meets interactive entertainment.
